In a heartwarming gesture of unity and national pride, six senior players from Nigeria’s men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have come together to reward the Super Falcons with a generous ₦24 million gift.
This comes in recognition of the Falcons’ heroic performance and triumph at the recently concluded 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they claimed their tenth continental title in grand style.

Leading the charge was Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, joined by his teammates Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo. The contribution, according to close sources, was a personal token of appreciation from the players to salute the resilience, strength, and determination shown by the Falcons throughout the tournament.
The Super Falcons’ journey to the title was anything but easy. They fought back from a two-goal deficit to edge out hosts Morocco in a thrilling 3–2 comeback victory, cementing their place as the most successful team in WAFCON history.
Their grit and spirit inspired millions across Nigeria and beyond, including their male counterparts, who felt compelled to honor their achievement in a meaningful way.
This show of solidarity underscores a growing sense of camaraderie and mutual respect between the men’s and women’s national teams. While Nigeria continues to make its mark in global football, this gesture reinforces that the success of one is a victory for all. It also sends a strong message of encouragement to younger generations, especially girls, that their contributions to sport and national identity are seen, valued, and celebrated.
The generous donation also adds to the string of recognitions the Super Falcons have received following their return from Morocco.
Alongside government commendations and national honors, this act of support from fellow players further boosts the morale of the team and shines a light on the importance of inter-gender support in sports.
As captain Troost-Ekong had earlier expressed during the tournament, “We are proud of our girls.” That pride has now translated into a tangible show of support, a symbolic reminder that Nigerian football stands united regardless of gender when it comes to celebrating excellence and flying the national flag high.
