Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again been recognized among Africa’s elite, earning a nomination for the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year award, after their triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Under coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons captured a record-extending 10th continental title, overcoming hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final after a comeback from two goals down. Their performance across the tournament was widely praised for its tactical discipline, attacking flair, and resilience.
The CAF (Confederation of African Football) National Team of the Year award is given to the women’s national side with the most outstanding achievements over the year. The Falcons’ nomination reflects their dominance in continental football, especially after securing their WAFCON success while maintaining an unbeaten run through the tournament.
This nod comes alongside other global recognitions for Nigeria’s stars: goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy, and Madugu was nominated for the Women’s Team Coach of the Year.
As anticipation builds for the CAF Awards ceremony, the Super Falcons’ nomination is being hailed as a testament to their consistency, strength of squad, and growing stature in African women’s football. Fans and analysts alike see this as further proof that Nigeria’s women’s team remains a benchmark for excellence.
