A shocking case of child murder has shaken residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, after police arrested a 23-year-old suspect allegedly found in possession of the severed head of a six-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Sodiq Kayode Akorede, was apprehended by operatives of the Oyo State Police Command following the gruesome incident that occurred on April 11, 2026, in Adigun Village, located in the Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ona-Ara Local Government Area.
According to police authorities, the victim, identified as Mutiyatu Sunday, was unlawfully killed, and her head severed. The severed head was reportedly discovered in the suspect’s possession at the scene, prompting immediate police intervention.
The spokesperson of the command confirmed that officers were swiftly deployed to the area on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, who ordered that the suspect be arrested and critical evidence secured.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime. He reportedly sustained injuries during the mob attack and is currently receiving medical attention.
The police further disclosed that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a more detailed investigation and subsequent prosecution.
