Police Arrest Man After Kidnappers Used His Bank Account to Receive ₦1 Million Ransom

Posted on April 29, 2026April 29, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Police Arrest Man After Kidnappers Used His Bank Account to Receive ₦1 Million Ransom

A 33-year-old man has been arrested by police after his bank account was allegedly used by kidnappers to receive ransom payments from a victim’s family, in a development that underscores the growing sophistication of criminal networks in Nigeria.

According to police authorities, the suspect—identified as Ndubuisi Anyakaku—was taken into custody on February 13 following investigations into a kidnapping incident in Awka, Anambra State. Security operatives revealed that the suspect’s bank account was traced as the destination for a ₦1 million ransom paid to secure the release of a kidnapped victim.

Police spokespersons explained that the arrest forms part of a broader investigation into a network allegedly involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and related crimes in the area. The authorities are working to determine whether the suspect was directly involved in the abduction or acted as an accomplice by providing financial channels for the criminals.

Investigators noted that the use of third-party bank accounts has become a recurring tactic among kidnapping syndicates seeking to evade detection. By routing ransom payments through accounts not directly linked to them, perpetrators attempt to obscure money trails and complicate law enforcement efforts.

The police further confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected gang and dismantle the wider network behind the operation. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with authorities emphasizing that anyone found to have knowingly facilitated the movement of ransom funds could face serious criminal charges.

Security experts warn that this case highlights the critical role financial tracking now plays in combating kidnapping and organized crime. They also advise citizens to exercise caution and promptly report suspicious financial requests or transactions linked to ransom demands.

The incident adds to growing concerns over kidnapping-for-ransom activities in parts of Nigeria, where criminal groups increasingly leverage digital banking systems to support their operations while attempting to avoid direct exposure.
