The Federal Government has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following a minor reshuffle in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to verified presidential statements released on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment after the resignation of the former minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a seasoned diplomat and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has now been elevated to oversee Nigeria’s external relations at a critical time for the country’s international diplomacy and economic engagement.
In the same development, the President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate. He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations and is a career diplomat with decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.
The Presidency stated that the appointments are part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for improved efficiency, stronger global partnerships, and enhanced economic diplomacy.
President Tinubu, in his remarks, urged the new appointees to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest, strengthen regional stability, and deepen diplomatic engagement that benefits citizens both at home and abroad.
The development marks one of the most significant adjustments in Nigeria’s foreign affairs leadership under the current administration.
