A strike on September 24, in northwest Syria killed nine “terrorist operatives,” including a senior Hurras al-Din leader, Marwan Bassam ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf, the US military reported.
An earlier strike on September 16, in central Syria targeted an IS training camp, killing at least 28 people, including four senior leaders.
The statement did not disclose the identities of the leaders.
The US military has approximately 900 troops in Syria as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State group. This coalition, established in 2014, aims to combat the armed group, which had seized vast areas of Iraq and Syria.

“These strikes against the leadership and operatives of ISIS and the Al Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din, underscore CENTCOM’s commitment to the enduring defeat of terrorist organisations in the CENTCOM area of responsibility and our support for regional stability,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM’s commander.
Anti-IS coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have been targeted numerous times by drones and rocket fire, as violence linked to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza last year has drawn in armed groups across the Middle East.
US forces have responded with multiple retaliatory strikes against militant factions in both countries.
In August, US forces killed another Hurras al-Din leader, Abu Abdul Rahman al-Makki, in a strike in Syria.
