Authorities at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, have formally prohibited the popular “sign-out” celebrations traditionally observed by students upon completing final exams or graduating.
This directive was announced in a circular released by the institution’s Dean of Student Affairs, F.E. Omagu, and shared with the press on Tuesday in Idah, Kogi State.
The statement emphasized that the decision was prompted by the recurrent disorderly behavior exhibited during previous celebrations. It cautioned that students or guests who disregard the directive risk facing disciplinary measures.
The management cited various forms of disruptive conduct, including defacing clothing with signatures, splashing water, spraying cash, reckless motorcycle and car rides, loud jubilation, and other unapproved activities, as reasons for the continued enforcement of the ban.

“The restriction on sign-out activities — such as shirt-signing, water splashing, cash spraying, disorderly motorcycle/car displays, excessive noise, and similar behaviors — remains firmly in place,” the notice said.
The school administration stressed that any individual or group attempting to undermine this policy, regardless of affiliation, would be sanctioned in line with institutional rules.
Students were urged to conduct themselves with decorum as they round off the academic session, maintaining peace and respect within the school environment.
While reiterating the ban, the management extended congratulations to the student body for successfully completing their second-semester exams and expressed hopes for excellent results.
