Lawyer Challenges Police Over Claim of Not Receiving Court Order on Tinted Glass Policy

Posted on October 4, 2025October 4, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Lawyer Challenges Police Over Claim of Not Receiving Court Order on Tinted Glass Policy

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, has criticized the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for claiming it has not been formally served with the federal high court order suspending the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy.

Earlier, Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said the police were yet to receive an official copy of the order issued by Justice H.A. Ngangijowa of the Federal High Court in Warri (Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025).

The ruling temporarily halted the enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement, citing concerns that it violated motorists’ constitutional rights.

In a response posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Okutepa faulted the police position, noting that Hundeyin himself had shared the enrolled order online. He argued that the police could not deny awareness of the judgment while publicly circulating the document.

“If the Nigerian Police has not been officially served with the orders of the court, but as the official spokesman you already have the enrolled order attached here, can you reasonably say you have not seen it? This tweet shows you are aware of the litigation,” Okutepa stated.

The senior lawyer urged the police to respect judicial authority, stressing that as the nation’s lead law enforcement agency, it should uphold the rule of law and act in accordance with global standards even before formal service of the order.

“As the foremost law enforcement institution, it will be proper and in line with civilized practice that the pending processes you are aware of be respected. That is my honest advice,” he added.

The court order remains in effect pending further hearings on the tinted glass policy dispute.
