Senator Iyiola Omisore, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Secretary of the party, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election in Osun State on the platform of the APC.
Omisore, who spoke in an interview, said he has commenced consultations with party members and stakeholders across the state to seek their views before formally entering the race.
He explained that his decision is guided by due process and consensus building, adding that his ultimate goal is to strengthen the APC ahead of the election.
The declaration has heightened political activities within the APC in Osun as other aspirants have also shown interest in the ticket.
Those reportedly eyeing the governorship seat include Senators Babajide Omoworare and Mudashiru Hussain, Ajibola Basiru, Bola Oyebamiji, Benedict Alabi, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, and Mr. Kunle Adegoke.
In a related department, Omisore has called for the party’s ticket to be zoned to Osun East Senatorial District, arguing that the area has produced the least number of governors compared to Osun Central and West.
He maintained, however, that competence and capacity must remain the key considerations for choosing the party’s flagbearer.
He further criticised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the government has left several projects uncompleted and lacks clear direction.
Some APC stakeholders have already expressed support for Omisore. Hon. Jamiu Olawumi and other party leaders have urged the APC to adopt him as a consensus candidate, noting that his political experience would boost the party’s chances of unseating the PDP in 2026.
Omisore has since reactivated his campaign office in Osogbo under the slogan, “Omisore for 2026 — The Rescue Mission Begins.”
