The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has reached a consensus to zone the House of Representatives seat for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency to the Ekiti axis ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Ephonix Hotel along Flower Garden, Ilorin, convened by the Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the APC, Olabanji Olayemi.
The meeting drew the attendance of party leaders, stakeholders and aspirants from across the federal constituency. Among dignitaries present were the Kwara APC Public Relations Officer, Waheed Babatunde, and the Kwara South Senatorial Secretary of the party, Joseph O. Towoju.
Aspirants present at the meeting included Prince Jesufemi Adeyemi Oyeyemi, Dr. Toba Oloyede, Mrs. Florence Oyeyemi, Bashorun Kayode Bankole, Abiola AbdulKareem Jagunlabi, Gbenle Adeyemi, Dr. Alex Bankole, Gbenga Ajibola, Hon. Ganiu Gabriel and Dare Bankole.
In his remarks, Olayemi said the zoning arrangement was adopted in the interest of fairness, equity and political balance within the federal constituency. He noted that the move was necessary to ensure inclusiveness and strengthen unity within the party.
He also sympathised with aspirants who had already purchased nomination forms before the zoning resolution was reached, urging them to remain loyal to the party and respect its supremacy.
According to him, the sacrifices and commitment of party faithful would not go unrewarded, assuring members that they would benefit from the dividends of democracy in due course.
During deliberations, the aspirants present reportedly endorsed the zoning decision unanimously, pledging their support for the party’s position.
Some of the aspirants, including Hon. Ganiu Gabriel, Mrs. Florence Oyeyemi, Bashorun Kayode Bankole and Abiola AbdulKareem Jagunlabi, spoke in support of the arrangement, stressing that the Irepodun axis, largely dominated by the Igbomina people, had occupied the House of Representatives seat for several years, while Isin Local Government also held the position for four years.
They argued that zoning the seat to the Ekiti axis was consistent with the principles of fairness and equity.
The meeting ended peacefully with a closing prayer delivered by Abiola AbdulKareem Jagunlabi.
