Arsenal moved three points clear of the chasing pack in the Premier League after grinding out a 1-0 away victory at Fulham.
The win underlines the Gunners’ title-ambition credentials and their continued defensive solidity.
At Craven Cottage, Arsenal sealed the win in the 58th minute when Leandro Trossard bundled home a flick-on by Gabriel Magalhães from a set-piece delivered by Bukayo Saka.
Prior to that goal, Arsenal had seen a chance by Riccardo Calafiori ruled out for offside, and later a penalty was awarded after a foul on Saka, only for the decision to be overturned by VAR.
Fulham had several early opportunities but notably failed to record a shot on target, such was Arsenal’s defensive discipline.
This was the second game in succession in which Arsenal did not concede a shot on target, a feat they had not achieved since their 2003-04 title-winning season.
Their goal-scoring from corners continues to be a feature. Statistics show Arsenal have scored more goals from corners than any other Premier League club over the past seasons.
With the victory, Arsenal now sit on 19 points from eight games, ahead of Manchester City and others.
Their four-point lead (or effectively three, by some counts) sends a clear message: Arsenal are serious contenders this season.

Manager Mikel Arteta praised his side’s mental strength and resilience after a somewhat sluggish start. He highlighted the significance of winning away at a venue where Arsenal have had struggles in previous seasons.
Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka remarked the team’s mindset, winning “in any context”, even when not at their fluid best.
Arsenal’s ability to pick up narrow, tough wins is precisely what title-chasing sides must be capable of. Their defence is proving to be rock-steady, while the set-piece threat gives them a clinical edge even when open-play chances are limited.
However, questions remain about their open-play creativity and goal output, today’s match again showed that while they managed the opposition, they did not dominate in the attacking third.
If they can maintain this level of defensive performance and gradually improve attacking fluency, the Gunners will be well placed to challenge for the Premier League crown.
Now the spotlight will turn to Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures, the consistency of results will matter more than ever. For Fulham, the defeat is a setback, but one that will offer lessons in how to deal with the very top teams.
For the neutral football fan, this result is another step towards what could be a compelling title race, where Arsenal are staking a serious claim.
