NECO 2025 SSCE Results Released: 71.63% Pass Rate Amid Rising Malpractice Cases

Posted on February 3, 2026February 3, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on NECO 2025 SSCE Results Released: 71.63% Pass Rate Amid Rising Malpractice Cases

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, showing that 71.63% of candidates earned five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. The announcement was made on Tuesday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, by Professor Dantani Ibrahim‑Wushishi, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the council.

A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the 2025 SSCE External, with 95,160 candidates actually sitting the exams. The results indicate a strong academic performance among external candidates, many of whom use the SSCE External as a second chance to improve their qualifications.

In English Language, 78.32% of candidates secured credit passes and above, while Mathematics recorded a pass rate of 91.35%. These figures underscore a steady performance in core subjects that are critical for tertiary education admission in Nigeria.

Overall, 68,166 candidates achieved at least five credits including English and Mathematics, representing 71.63% of all candidates. When not including English and Mathematics, 86.26% of candidates earned at least five credits in any subject, showing a generally strong performance across elective subjects.

Despite the positive performance, NECO reported a notable rise in examination malpractice, with 9,016 candidates booked for various offences, up from 6,160 cases in 2024. This represents a 31.7% increase in malpractice cases, signaling challenges in examination conduct.

As part of NECO’s disciplinary measures, five examination supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice. NECO also recommended four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano states for de‑recognition due to involvement in mass examination malpractice.

Professor Wushishi emphasized NECO’s zero-tolerance policy on malpractice, noting that the council continues to strengthen monitoring and supervision to ensure the integrity of its examinations. He urged candidates and examination officials to uphold ethical standards in future exams.

The results also reflect NECO’s efforts to enhance transparency and accessibility. Candidates can check their individual results online using their registration numbers on NECO’s official website, and print result slips for school admission or certification purposes.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the results, praising the relatively high pass rate, while also calling for stricter measures to curb malpractice. Analysts note that the integrity of Nigeria’s examination system is critical for producing credible and competent graduates.

As the results are now accessible, students are advised to promptly download and print their results. NECO has reaffirmed its commitment to providing fair examinations, maintaining high academic standards, and ensuring that every candidate’s effort is properly recognized.
