The Kogi State Government has confirmed that four persons abducted during a recent armed attack on a secondary school in Dekina Local Government Area have been rescued following a coordinated security operation.
The victims were kidnapped when gunmen invaded Government Secondary School, Olowa (also referred to as Odo-Ekina), during the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations earlier this week. The attack triggered widespread concern after the assailants disrupted the examination and abducted school officials and candidates.
Announcing the development on Thursday, the state government commended the efforts of security agencies, describing the rescue as the result of sustained collaboration among multiple security formations operating in the state.
According to the government, the victims were rescued safely, although it did not immediately provide detailed information on the circumstances of the operation or whether any arrests were made during the mission.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier directed security agencies to launch an intensive operation to secure the release of the abducted persons and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
The government also praised the gallantry and professionalism of the security personnel involved in the operation, assuring residents that efforts to track down the perpetrators remain ongoing.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations aimed at improving safety across the state.
