Chief Mrs Regina Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has publicly urged her husband to remain steadfast in the Christian faith, describing it as the foundation of his personal journey and political ascent.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Makurdi, Benue State, Mrs Akume shared her prayers and expectations for the SGF as he celebrated his 72nd birthday. Her remarks came amid growing public attention following reports that Senator Akume has entered into a new marriage.
According to reports, the SGF recently married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The development has sparked conversations in political and religious circles.
Mrs Akume cautioned that abandoning Christianity for another belief system would not bring success, insisting that her family’s progress and her husband’s achievements in public service were rooted in their Christian faith.
She emphasized that Akume’s rise to the position of SGF was not by chance but, in her words, through faith in Jesus Christ, whom she described as still actively guiding and blessing their lives.
Urging him to retrace his spiritual steps, she appealed for a renewed commitment to Christian values, noting that faith had been central to their shared journey over the years.
Mrs Akume also hinted at possible political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections, observing that recent developments had introduced new complexities, as the family situation had, according to her, become divided.
Her comments have since generated widespread reactions, adding a personal and faith-based dimension to discussions surrounding the SGF’s private life and its perceived public consequences.
