The Kogi State Government has announced that all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state will resume academic activities on Monday, 23 February 2026, following an emergency suspension earlier in the month due to security concerns.
The closure, which began in early February, was implemented as a precautionary measure to protect pupils, students, teachers, and school staff amid credible security threats affecting parts of the state.
A statement signed by Mr. Matthew Salami, Director of Basic and Secondary Education in the Kogi Ministry of Education and Communications, confirmed the resumption date, directing school heads and the public to take note that both day and boarding students are expected back on the specified Monday.
According to the government, the temporary break was necessary to allow security agencies to enhance safety arrangements around educational institutions, aiming to ensure a secure environment before academic activities restart.
The ministry also thanked students, parents, teachers, and staff for their cooperation during the emergency break and encouraged continued vigilance as schools reopen.
Authorities have stressed that further updates or additional safety guidance, if needed, will be communicated to the public through official channels.
