At the national level of governance, the ruling All Progressive Congress has continually heaped blames on the opposition People’s Democratic Party for numerous failures in the polity. These were understandable at the beginning of their government regime. Nigerians however have gotten tired of the blame game and character De-marketing after seven years in government with a not impressive scorecard in many aspect of appraisal of performance.
The message from the electorate seem to be ,- LET YOUR PERFORMANCE SPEAK – WE HAVE CONSCIENCE AND SENSIBILITY ENOUGH TO KNOW PERFORMERS AND NON-PERFORMERS .
Few days running, our online media space was awash with a running syndicated article purportedly explaining how Dr Bukola Saraki underdeveloped Kwara North. It is an unnecessary distraction of the electorates from the real issues we should be looking at to elect leaders suitable for the state in the coming elections.
The syndicated article appealed to the primordial sentiments of the indigenous people of Kwara North, seeking to incite them against voting for their son who is the PDP gubernatorial candidate simply because he shares party affiliation with Dr Bukola Saraki.
The reasoning is faulty, mediocre and maybe counter productive to the camp of the originators. Shall we, by the logic of their reason, also deduce that by association with the National government that has glaringly failed Nigerians in terms of security and economic wellbeing, the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq should be rejected? Because of the soaring inflationary trends as a result of faulty micro and macro economics of the APC national government, is that why we should reject Gov Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman
Such reasoning is an absolute incongruity of thoughts in a polity where party manifestos don’t determine what the office holders do in office.
We should deemphasize character De-marketing as we inch closer to the 2023 elections. Let us seek to show the people what we have done which in turn will dwarf any other achievements that may also be put forward by oppositions in the state.
From the Rextun City Updates Editorial, it’s a thumbs down 👎 for the diversionary article purportedly written from Minna!
