Six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have formally defected to the Accord Party, in a major political shift that further strengthens the ruling party ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The lawmakers, originally elected to the National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced their decision to join Accord on Monday at a party stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Clement Akanni, the federal lawmaker representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, reiterated their confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke and projected a strong performance for him in the forthcoming election. He also urged supporters to be vigilant on election day, advising them to monitor ballot papers and result sheets closely.
The six defectors include:
Clement Akanni – Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency
Mahruf Adewale – Osogbo Federal Constituency
Bamidele Salam – Ede Federal Constituency
Soji Adetunji – Ikirun Federal Constituency
Mudashiru Lukman Alani – Iwo Federal Constituency
Lanre Oladebo – Irewole Isokan Federal Constituency
At the event, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who defected from the PDP to Accord in December 2025 ahead of his re-election bid, described his own party switch as a response to internal crisis within his former party and guidance received during consultations and prayers.
Adeleke expressed gratitude to both his former party and the Accord leadership for the opportunity to continue his political journey under a new banner, urging supporters to work towards a decisive victory in August.
Political analysts view these defections as part of a broader realignment in Osun State politics, where a growing number of lawmakers, including 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly, have also left the PDP for the Accord Party in recent days to align with Adeleke’s leadership and platform.
This latest wave of defections effectively reduces the PDP’s presence in both the state legislature and federal delegation from Osun, consolidating the Accord Party’s influence as the state prepares for a competitive governorship election later this year.
