Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has carried out a cabinet reshuffle that saw the removal of key ministers and the elevation of a new head of the nation’s finance portfolio.
In the changes announced on Tuesday, the President appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, replacing Wale Edun.
Oyedele, who had only recently been serving as Minister of State for Finance, was directed to take over the leadership of the ministry with immediate effect. His elevation marks a swift rise within the administration, having been sworn in just weeks earlier after his confirmation by the Senate.
As part of the reshuffle, the President also removed Ahmed Musa Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. A replacement, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has been named as minister-designate for the housing ministry, pending necessary confirmations.
Official statements indicated that both Edun and Dangiwa have been instructed to hand over to their successors, with the transition process expected to be completed within days.
The reshuffle, described as a “minor cabinet adjustment,” is seen as part of the administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen economic management and improve governance delivery.
Oyedele, an economist and former fiscal policy expert, is expected to play a central role in coordinating Nigeria’s economic policies under the government’s reform agenda, particularly in areas of taxation, revenue generation, and fiscal stability.
