The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a tragic explosion that claimed one life and left another person injured along the Kiama–Woro–Borgu Road in Kaiama Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, March 23, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the explosion is suspected to have been caused by a landmine planted along the road. The device reportedly detonated when a commercial vehicle traveling from Kiama to Borgu in Niger State passed over it.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Zubairu Inuwa, died instantly in the blast. A passenger, Nafisat Mohammed, a nursing mother, sustained injuries and has since been evacuated to a medical facility for treatment. Her infant child, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident, survived without harm.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the bereaved family and wishing the injured victim a swift recovery.
Preliminary investigations by the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) unit confirmed that the explosion was caused by suspected landmines believed to have been planted by terrorists. Authorities say the devices were likely intended to disrupt ongoing security clearance operations in the area.
In response, the police command has deployed additional security personnel to the affected axis, with enhanced surveillance and monitoring already underway to safeguard residents and commuters.
The Command reassured the public that the situation remains under control and urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to stabilize the area.
