Not less than nine persons have been confirmed dead by the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ogun State sector in an accident that occurred around Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Monday.
Three others sustained various degrees of injuries in the road crash.
The accident, which reportedly occurred at about 5:30 am, involved a Toyota bus with plate number UYY 165 ZY and a truck with registration number DKA 244 XC.
The bus driver was said to have lost control and rammed into the stationary truck.
Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC Spokesperson, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement.
Okpe explained, “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours this morning about 0530HRS on Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ayetoro area.
“A total of 13 people were involved which comprised of 10 male adults and 03 female adults and 09 were recorded killed (06 male and 03 female) while 03 were injured.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a stationary truck.
“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue in Sagamu.”
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, is said to have been pained over the recklessness of some drivers for not observing the stipulated speed limit and refusing to obey the 15-minute rest after every four hours of driving.
He sympathised with the families of the victims and enjoined them to contact Mowe Unit Command for more information about the crash.
