Wike Accused of Granting ₦198m Land Waiver to Son Within 48 Hours – Senator Kingibe Alleges Abuse of Office

Posted on July 18, 2025July 18, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Wike Accused of Granting ₦198m Land Waiver to Son Within 48 Hours – Senator Kingibe Alleges Abuse of Office

ABUJA — Fresh controversy has trailed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following a damning allegation by Senator Ireti Kingibe, who accused the minister of waiving a ₦200 million land title bill for his son, reducing it to a mere ₦2 million within just 48 hours.

Speaking during a live interview on Arise TV, Senator Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate, claimed she had obtained official documents indicating that Wike’s son was granted a land allocation with a staggering bill of ₦200 million. According to her, a waiver was swiftly approved within two days, slashing the cost to ₦2 million without due process. She described the act as unethical and illegal, warning that such actions erode public trust and transparency in land administration within the capital territory.

The Senator stated emphatically that she would tender the documents before the National Assembly and push for an inquiry into the growing concerns over favoritism and irregularities in land allocations under the current FCT administration.

“In 48 hours, the Minister signed a waiver that reduced his son’s land title bill from ₦200 million to ₦2 million,” Kingibe alleged. “That is illegal, unfair, and against the principles of public service. I will be presenting these documents at the National Assembly.”

This latest allegation comes amid mounting criticisms of Wike’s style of leadership in the FCT. Senator Kingibe also pointed to the revocation of land originally allocated for a general hospital in Bwari, which she claimed was reassigned for private development—an action she says further illustrates a troubling pattern of questionable decisions within the FCT land sector.

Although multiple media reports, including those from Ripples Nigeria and The Nigeria Lawyer, have corroborated Kingibe’s timeline and figures, the minister is yet to respond directly to the accusation. Previously, Minister Wike had dismissed claims of allocating thousands of hectares to his son, calling such reports baseless and politically motivated.

As public scrutiny intensifies, civil society groups and opposition lawmakers are calling for a formal investigation into the alleged abuse of office and breach of ethical conduct. The Senate is also expected to deliberate on the issue in the coming days, following Senator Kingibe’s planned submission of the documents as evidence.

The controversy adds to the growing debate over transparency and accountability in the stewardship of the nation’s capital, with citizens watching closely as developments unfold.

For now, the FCT Minister’s silence remains loud—and the questions, pressing.
