The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has handed the Federal Government a seven-day deadline to address pressing issues relating to workers’ welfare, including the alleged mismanagement of funds belonging to the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the delay in constituting the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
In a communiqué released after its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Abuja, the NLC warned that failure to meet its demands would result in a nationwide strike.

The meeting, chaired by NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, reviewed the current state of affairs affecting Nigerian workers, the broader labour movement, and the nation’s socio-economic stability.
Delegates resolved that urgent action is needed to protect pension funds and restore confidence in national labour institutions.
With the ultimatum now counting down, the NLC’s position signals potential disruptions across key sectors if the Federal Government fails to act.
