Nurudeen Adeyemi Advocates for Indigenous Aerospace Technology, Hails Decentralization of NCAT

Posted on October 2, 2025October 2, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Nurudeen Adeyemi Advocates for Indigenous Aerospace Technology, Hails Decentralization of NCAT

Aerospace engineer and TETFUND Board Member, Chief Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, has called for stronger investment in homegrown aerospace technology, stressing that it is the foundation for Nigeria’s independence and global competitiveness in aviation and space exploration.

Speaking at the 48th Kwara NUJ Media Parliament held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, Adeyemi delivered a keynote address titled “Nigeria’s Aerospace Potential: Innovation, Infrastructure and Indigenous Capacity.”

He noted that the country already possesses the talent and technical ability but requires sustained commitment and long-term investment to achieve significant breakthroughs.

“We have the talent; we have the capacity. What remains is commitment and time. The most important thing is to focus on homegrown aerospace development,” Adeyemi stated.

He highlighted that the aerospace industry extends beyond airplanes and airports, serving as a driver of innovation, national security, infrastructure, and power generation. According to him, a vibrant aerospace sector has the potential to strengthen civil aviation, enhance military capacity, and generate thousands of jobs.

While acknowledging the dedication of regulatory agencies in keeping Nigeria’s airspace safe, Adeyemi expressed concern over outdated equipment, high maintenance costs, and aging facilities that pose safety and efficiency challenges.

He praised the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that debts in the aviation sector are being addressed while facility upgrades are ongoing nationwide.

“Aerospace is a job creator. It is vital to our national security and development. We must remain focused until Nigeria takes its rightful place,” Adeyemi affirmed.

On the recent decentralization of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Adeyemi described the move as “a good and commendable decision.”
Earlier this year, President Tinubu had approved the establishment of five new NCAT campuses in Akure (Ondo State), Osubi (Delta State), Ebonyi State, Ilorin (Kwara State), and Yola (Adamawa State). He also gave the green light for the country’s first private aeronautical university, Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM).

Adeyemi concluded by emphasizing that with the right policies, Nigeria can position itself as a leader in aerospace innovation both within Africa and on the global stage.
