A fast-spreading malware strain, nicknamed “ShadowCrack”, is currently attacking Nigeria-originated websites, forcing several platforms offline and raising fears of a wider regional cyber-threat.
According to cybersecurity analysts, the malware began circulating late Monday night, infiltrating websites through outdated plugins and unsecured admin panels. Once inside, ShadowCrack corrupts pages, redirects visitors to malicious domains, and attempts to steal stored user data.

Early victims include small business sites, news blogs, and church portals hosted on local Nigerian servers. Several affected platforms displayed a chilling message before crashing:
“SYSTEM WEAK. ACCESS CLAIMED.”
Tech experts warn that the malware is still evolving and appears capable of jumping between hosting providers, making it difficult to contain. Some Nigerian site owners have reported sudden spikes in traffic, distorted pages, or complete admin lockouts.
The National Cybersecurity Response Unit is urging web administrators to immediately update their security tools, back up site data, and enable multi-factor authentication.
While efforts are underway to isolate the threat, specialists caution that ShadowCrack remains active.
Users are advised to avoid suspicious links, reload compromised pages cautiously, and watch for further official alerts as the situation develops.
