FG Unveils National Job Centres to Link Trained Nigerians with Job Opportunities

Posted on October 15, 2025October 15, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on FG Unveils National Job Centres to Link Trained Nigerians with Job Opportunities

The Federal Government has officially launched the National Job Centre Project, a nationwide network of employability hubs designed to connect skilled and trained Nigerians with real job opportunities. The initiative aims to modernize Nigeria’s labour market infrastructure and bridge the gap between job seekers and employers across various sectors.

Announcing the development during the Mastercard Foundation Annual Nigeria Partner Convening held in Lagos on Wednesday, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes dignified, inclusive, and transformative work for all Nigerians.

According to Onyejeocha, the National Job Centres will function as digital employability hubs integrating technology, data, and career guidance services to enhance the nation’s job placement system. She noted that the centres will also serve as a central platform where trained individuals can be matched with employers who need their skills.

“The National Job Centres will integrate digital job matching, data tracking, and career advisory services to create a harmonised and inclusive system,” Onyejeocha explained. “They will empower Nigerian youths to contribute meaningfully to the local economy while remaining globally competitive.”

The Minister further revealed that the initiative would not only facilitate employment access but also support skill development, entrepreneurship, and innovation through its Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), a complementary scheme designed to boost employability and smooth the transition from training to full-time jobs.

Onyejeocha emphasized that the centres would use a data-driven approach to track labour market trends, measure employment outcomes, and identify areas where training interventions are needed. Each centre will provide career counselling, mentorship support, and labour market information, ensuring that both job seekers and employers benefit from transparent and efficient engagement.

She also called for collaboration between government agencies, private sector employers, international development partners, and civil society to ensure the success of the programme. “The success of this project depends on collective effort,” she added. “We are building a framework that supports productivity, competitiveness, and inclusive growth.”

Experts believe the launch of the National Job Centres marks a critical milestone in addressing Nigeria’s high unemployment and underemployment rates. With many graduates and artisans facing difficulties in accessing structured job markets, the new system is expected to close the gap between training and actual job placement.

However, stakeholders have pointed out possible challenges, including funding sustainability, state–federal coordination, and awareness creation in rural areas. The government, in response, assured that continuous monitoring and feedback systems would be integrated to measure progress and impact.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment noted that the centres would gradually be established across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), beginning with pilot centres in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. The initiative, according to the Ministry, represents a new dawn in Nigeria’s employment framework, aimed at giving every qualified Nigerian a fair chance at decent and productive work.

As the project unfolds, the National Job Centres are expected to become a cornerstone for employment generation, skill utilisation, and economic empowerment, in line with the Federal Government’s long-term vision of a prosperous and self-reliant nation.
