Tinubu Orders 24-Hour Security Cordon on Kwara Forests, Directs NAF to Intensify Surveillance

Posted on November 26, 2025November 26, 2025 By Rextun boss No Comments on Tinubu Orders 24-Hour Security Cordon on Kwara Forests, Directs NAF to Intensify Surveillance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has imposed a sweeping security cordon over forests in Kwara State and adjoining regions in a decisive response to the escalating wave of kidnappings and violent attacks linked to armed groups. The directive, issued through his official communication channel, mandates the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to expand aerial surveillance over dense forest corridors widely known as hideouts for bandits and terrorists.

The President’s order follows a chain of disturbing incidents in rural communities, where armed men carried out deadly raids, abducted villagers, and disrupted the peace of agrarian settlements. Security reports had pointed to the movement of criminal networks between forest belts spanning Kwara, Niger, and Kebbi, prompting a renewed urgency for coordinated federal action.

According to the statement, NAF aircraft will maintain round-the-clock surveillance across high-risk vegetation zones, providing real-time intelligence to ground forces already deployed in the affected areas. This synchronized approach, the presidency explained, is designed to track hostile elements, block escape routes, and accelerate ongoing rescue efforts for abducted victims.

The renewed security operation comes amid heightened public anxiety, especially after recent attacks where gunmen stormed remote communities, abducted residents—including women and children—and fled into bush pathways under the cover of night. Local accounts indicate that the armed groups have grown increasingly daring, exploiting the thickness of the forests to avoid detection.

Federal authorities believe that sustained aerial presence will significantly disrupt the activities of these criminal gangs, who rely on the rugged terrain to evade law enforcement. The air surveillance directive also signals a shift toward a more intelligence-driven counter-banditry strategy capable of identifying camps, escape tracks, and key operational points.

In addition to the aerial cordon, President Tinubu urged communities within and around the targeted forest zones to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements. He emphasized that timely intelligence from residents remains crucial to the success of the expanded military operations.

Security analysts have welcomed the directive, describing it as a bold step toward dismantling entrenched criminal structures in the North-Central corridor. However, they cautioned that the vastness of the forests poses operational challenges, and sustained political will would be needed to maintain the intensity of the surveillance.

The presidency reassured citizens that the ongoing operation is not centered on indiscriminate force but on coordinated precision actions aimed at flushing out perpetrators without endangering innocent residents. According to officials, the air force is working closely with ground-based security units to ensure that every intervention is guided by actionable intelligence.

Communities in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger have expressed hopeful optimism, noting that previous military deployments lacked the aerial reinforcement now being introduced. Local leaders say they are ready to cooperate with security agencies, especially as families continue to pray for the safe return of abducted loved ones.

As the security forces intensify operations over the coming days, Nigerians await tangible improvements in the safety of rural communities, hoping that this new full-spectrum security cordon will mark a turning point in the country’s prolonged battle against banditry and forest-based terrorism.
