The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced a comprehensive tracking exercise of federal constituency projects worth ₦16.3 billion in Kogi State.
The initiative, announced on Saturday, covers 72 federal projects spread across the three senatorial districts of the state, Kogi East, West, and Central. ICPC operatives are assessing project quality, compliance with specifications, and ensuring that communities receive intended benefits.
During the launch in Lokoja, the team inspected major works including the ₦6.2 billion Federal Secretariat Complex and the ₦6.4 billion Inland River Port, signalling the start of the verification process.
Mr. Wale David, an ICPC Assistant Commissioner, said the tracking exercise aims to clamp down on incomplete or sub-standard work. Contractors responsible for poor execution may be asked to return to sites to complete or upgrade projects to acceptable standards.
The exercise spans key sectors, such as power, water, roads, housing, and empowerment programmes, with team members verifying whether projects are executed properly and whether beneficiaries are genuine. While tracking empowerment programmes may present challenges, David said the commission is committed to diligent verification.
ICPC also deployed a quantity surveyor, Mr. Ogunseemi Bayo, to the field team to help assess project costs and construction quality against approved budgets.

The commission noted that the tracking effort will cover all 21 local government areas of Kogi State. It urged local community members to “claim ownership” of the projects, implying that citizen involvement is key to transparency and accountability.
The initiative is part of ICPC’s broader Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI), through which the commission has periodically monitored the execution of federal projects in states nationwide to promote accountability and value for public funds.
