The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to arraign former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a Federal High Court in Kaduna today, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, over multiple corruption-related allegations.
According to the anti-graft agency, the former governor will be arraigned alongside a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, in a case marked FHC/KD/73/2026. The charges filed against them include alleged conversion and unlawful possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
The ICPC disclosed that beyond the federal case, a separate charge has also been filed against El-Rufai at a Kaduna State High Court. In that case, he is accused alongside another defendant, Amadu Sule, of offences including abuse of office, fraud, and actions intended to confer undue advantage.
Both cases were filed on March 18, 2026, with the commission confirming that the former governor has been duly served. However, the date for arraignment in the state high court is yet to be announced.
El-Rufai has been in the custody of the ICPC since February 2026 following his re-arrest shortly after being granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His continued detention had drawn criticism from political groups, civil society organisations, and family members, who called for either his release or formal arraignment in court.
In its official statement, the ICPC reiterated its commitment to due process and the rule of law, noting that all actions taken in the case comply with legal procedures.
The arraignment marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle involving the former governor, who has consistently maintained his innocence and described the allegations against him as politically motivated.
