KWARA 2027: APC Screens 158 Assembly Aspirants, 105 Left Uncleared After Vetting Exercise

Posted on May 14, 2026May 14, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on KWARA 2027: APC Screens 158 Assembly Aspirants, 105 Left Uncleared After Vetting Exercise

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its screening exercise for aspirants seeking to contest seats in the State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a total of 158 participants undergoing the process and 105 reportedly not cleared.

Party sources confirmed that the screening, conducted at the state secretariat in Ilorin, covered all 24 constituencies across the state and attracted aspirants from all 16 local government areas, reflecting what party officials described as strong internal competition and high interest in legislative positions.

According to officials involved in the exercise, the screening committee reviewed documents, qualifications, and eligibility criteria of all aspirants in line with party guidelines aimed at ensuring credible candidates for the forthcoming elections. The process is part of broader preparations by the APC to strengthen its chances in the 2027 polls.

A breakdown of the exercise shows that while a number of aspirants scaled through the screening, a significant portion, 105 aspirants did not receive clearance at this stage. Party officials, however, noted that such outcomes are not final, as affected aspirants are expected to have access to the party’s appeal mechanism where applicable.

The screening committee, led by senior party officials, had earlier emphasized that the exercise was designed to uphold fairness, internal democracy, and due diligence, while also avoiding post-primary legal disputes that have affected party fortunes in previous elections in other states.

The high number of aspirants participating, 158 in total, has been linked by party leaders to the APC’s growing political strength in Kwara State, as well as increased interest in legislative offices ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Further details on the identities of cleared and uncleared aspirants are expected to be formally released by the party after internal review and appeal processes are concluded.

At the time of filing this report, the APC has not issued an official comprehensive breakdown of the screening outcomes, but party officials maintain that the process remains transparent and consistent with internal party rules.
