Fulani Group Urges Tinubu, Makinde to Caution Sunday Igboho Over Alleged Threats

Posted on June 21, 2026June 21, 2026 By Rextun boss No Comments on Fulani Group Urges Tinubu, Makinde to Caution Sunday Igboho Over Alleged Threats

A Fulani socio-cultural organisation, the Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other South-West governors to caution Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo over remarks the group described as inflammatory and capable of escalating ethnic tensions in Oyo State.

The appeal followed reports that Igboho issued a two-hour ultimatum to Fulani leaders in parts of Oyo State after the alleged abduction of a woman, her children and a sibling by suspected kidnappers. According to media reports, the activist threatened to take action against those he believed were connected to the incident if the victims were not released within the stipulated period.

In a statement, the Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria expressed concern over what it described as attempts to profile an entire ethnic group for the criminal activities of a few individuals. The group maintained that criminality should be addressed through lawful security processes rather than ethnic generalisations, warning that such rhetoric could heighten mistrust and undermine peaceful coexistence among communities in the South-West.

The organisation urged President Tinubu, Governor Makinde and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that public statements capable of provoking hostility between ethnic groups are discouraged. It also called on security agencies to investigate the reported abduction and bring those responsible to justice.

The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity, kidnapping and banditry across parts of the South-West. Igboho has repeatedly spoken out against criminal activities linked to armed groups operating in forests and rural communities, arguing that stronger action is needed to protect residents.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Oyo State Government had issued an official response to the Fulani group’s latest appeal.
