A major security breakthrough was recorded on Monday night as a joint team of government security operatives neutralized at least 15 suspected bandits and kidnappers during a fierce gun battle along the Kogi–Kwara border.
The operation followed a deadly attack in Oke Ode, Kwara State, on Sunday, which prompted security agencies to intensify surveillance and launch a coordinated response in the area.
According to security sources, the joint forces stormed the criminals’ hideouts, engaging them in a prolonged exchange of fire. The operation successfully dismantled several camps and disrupted the activities of the armed groups believed to be behind recent kidnappings and violent attacks in the region.
Authorities confirmed that targeted operations will continue across border communities to prevent further assaults, weaken criminal networks, and restore peace to residents.
The latest development has been welcomed by locals who have repeatedly called for tougher action against rising insecurity in parts of North-Central Nigeria.
