Armed attackers have abducted seven travellers along the Itobe–Anyagba expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, police authorities confirmed on Thursday.
According to reports, a police patrol team discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota Avensis with registration number KTU 503 CV by the roadside on Wednesday evening.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle, carrying eight passengers from Kabba and heading towards Benue State, was ambushed near Ojuwo Olijo forest.
Seven of the travellers were forcefully taken into the bush by the gunmen, while one female passenger, identified as Elizabeth Istifanu from Kabba, narrowly escaped the attack.
Security operatives, including Nigerian Army troops, police personnel, and local vigilantes, have since mobilized to the area.
A massive bush-combing operation is currently underway to rescue the victims and track down the abductors.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about insecurity and frequent kidnappings on highways across Kogi State and other parts of Nigeria.
