The Kwara State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation of the 2020 cult-related killing of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) Chairman, Mallam Wahab Abdullahi, popularly known as Alubarika. The arrest marks a significant step forward in the quest for justice more than five years after the high-profile murder shocked residents of Ilorin and the transport community.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, and dated October 23, 2025, the command arrested one of the key suspects, Oseni Musbau, also known as “IDE,” on October 20, 2025. Musbau, described as a notorious cultist, had been on the run since the incident occurred in March 2020.
The statement revealed that the suspect was apprehended at Ganmo Police Station, where he was being held for another case involving criminal intimidation. During interrogation, Musbau reportedly confessed to his role in the killing of the TOAN chairman and provided vital information that led to the arrest of another accomplice, Sodiq Rasheed, popularly known as Ita-Amo.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang connected to the murder. The command assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that justice is served and the remaining suspects are brought to book.
The Kwara State Police Command praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his strategic direction and continued support, which have strengthened policing efforts across the country. The command noted that under the IGP’s guidance, it has continued to record significant achievements through sustained vigilance, intelligence-driven operations, and professional policing.
The police urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation and other efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The killing of Mallam Wahab Abdullahi, known for his influence among commercial tricycle operators, had sparked outrage in 2020 and led to increased security operations targeting cult-related violence in the state. With the latest arrest, the command reaffirmed its determination to maintain peace and bring closure to families affected by cult-related crimes.
The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while assuring the public that all suspects connected to the case would face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
