The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two Chinese nationals working on the BUA Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu road project after armed men invaded their construction site. The workers were part of the engineering team handling the strategic road project when the attackers struck in the late hours of Monday.
According to reports from the scene, the gunmen stormed the construction camp located around the Ejidongari axis of Moro Local Government Area. They were said to be heavily armed, firing sporadically to scare workers and residents before whisking the two Chinese nationals away into the surrounding forest.

Sources in the area disclosed that the gunmen operated for several hours under the cover of darkness, creating tension among road workers and villagers near the project zone. No other casualties were recorded during the attack, but the abduction caused panic across nearby communities.
The victims, whose identities have not yet been publicly disclosed, were part of the technical team handling a major segment of the BUA-backed road construction, a project considered crucial for improving transportation links between Kwara North and the state’s border communities. Their abduction has now raised fresh concerns over insecurity along major project corridors.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, told Daily Trust that two Chinese workers were indeed abducted from the site. He added that as of the time of confirmation, the kidnappers had not made any contact with the police, the construction company, or the families of the victims.
He further noted that security operatives had been deployed to comb the forests surrounding Moro LGA in a bid to rescue the abducted expatriates. According to Ojo, the command is working with local vigilantes and hunters familiar with the terrain to trace the movement of the abductors.
The development comes amid growing concerns about rising cases of kidnapping and banditry across parts of Kwara State. Several communities in Kwara North have reported renewed criminal activities in recent weeks, fueling calls for stronger security interventions from both state and federal authorities.
Security analysts have warned that persistent attacks on construction workers, especially expatriates, may discourage foreign participation in key infrastructure projects. The abduction of workers on the Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu road project is seen as a major setback to the ongoing effort to boost cross-border connectivity and economic development.
Residents and community stakeholders have appealed for intensified patrols along major construction sites and other vulnerable locations in the region. They also urged authorities to deploy more resources for intelligence gathering to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
As police operations continue, the Kwara State government and security agencies are expected to issue further updates on rescue efforts. Meanwhile, concerns remain high as the victims are yet to regain freedom, and the whereabouts of the kidnappers remain unknown.
