The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has dissolved all party caucuses across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas, with immediate effect, as the party begins a major reorganisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Sunday, August 9, 2026, by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara.
According to the statement, the dissolution followed resolutions reached by the State Executive Committee (SEC) and other key stakeholders during a closed-door meeting with the party leader and former President of the 8th Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, during his recent homecoming and stakeholders’ engagements in Kwara.
The party described the move as the commencement of a comprehensive restructuring process aimed at repositioning the PDP and strengthening its organisational capacity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adewara said the party believes the preparations for the 2027 elections have effectively begun, making it necessary to refresh its existing structures, introduce new participants and widen opportunities for members to contribute to the party’s activities.
He explained that the planned reorganisation is intended to produce a more effective, inclusive and electorally competitive political structure capable of pursuing the PDP’s objectives at various levels in the state.
The Kwara PDP further stated that the State Executive Committee acted within the powers vested in it to take measures considered necessary to strengthen, reposition and reorganise the party in the overall interest of its members and its electoral prospects.
While announcing the dissolution, the party expressed appreciation to members of the outgoing caucuses for their service, loyalty, sacrifices and contributions to the growth of the PDP in Kwara State.
The party urged the affected members not to interpret the dissolution as an end to their political relevance, stressing that their experience and contributions would remain valuable to the collective efforts of the party as it moves towards the 2027 elections.
The PDP also appealed to its members across the state to remain calm, united and committed during the transition, disclosing that arrangements are already underway for the recruitment, constitution and inauguration of new caucuses across the 16 local government areas.
The development signals what could be a significant phase of internal restructuring for the Kwara PDP as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
