President Bola Tinubu’s government has announced a new date for the commencement of payment of the N35,000 wage award to federal civil servants in the country.

Earlier, the President had announced the payment of N35,000 wage award to workers to help cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal during his Independence Day speech on October 1.

It was agreed, during a meeting with the organized labour same day, that the payment of the wage award would commence with immediate effect.

However, a latest circular dated October 19, 2023, signed by chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission, Ekpo NTA, showed that the payment would take effect from September 2023. This is interpreted to mean an arrears of one month before the actual announcement in October would be paid.

The wage award is expected to last for period of six months.
