Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a compressed two-week timetable for the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for aspirants seeking to contest in the 2027 general elections, signaling an accelerated internal electoral process.
According to the party’s official schedule released on Monday, the sale of forms for presidential, governorship, and National Assembly positions will run from April 25 to May 2, 2026, with May 4 fixed as the final deadline for submission of completed forms.
The APC also mapped out a sequence of screening exercises immediately after the submission window. Presidential aspirants are to be screened on May 9, while other categories of aspirants will undergo screening between May 6 and May 8, with additional sessions slated for May 12 and May 13.
As part of the financial requirements, the party pegged the cost of forms at ₦100 million for presidential aspirants, ₦50 million for governorship candidates, ₦20 million for Senate hopefuls, and ₦10 million for those seeking seats in the House of Representatives. State House of Assembly forms are priced at ₦6 million.
However, the APC introduced concessions aimed at inclusivity, stating that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities will only pay for the expression of interest form and 50 percent of the nomination fee.
Primary elections across categories have been scheduled within a tight window in May. The party fixed May 16 and May 23 for its presidential and governorship primaries, while legislative primaries will hold earlier—May 18 for the House of Representatives, May 20 for the Senate, and May 21 for State Houses of Assembly.
The timetable aligns with the broader electoral calendar issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has scheduled party primaries nationwide between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
INEC has also fixed January 16, 2027, for presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Assembly elections will follow on February 6, 2027.
APC spokesman Felix Morka said the party remains committed to conducting transparent and credible primaries, urging aspirants and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the outlined timetable.
The announcement effectively sets the stage for intense political activity within the ruling party, as aspirants now have a limited window to formalize their ambitions ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 election cycle.
