Suspected bandits led by notorious kingpin Bello Turji have reportedly killed three people in a fresh attack on Bargaja community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack occurred late on Saturday night, plunging the community into panic as armed men stormed the area and opened fire on residents. Three people were confirmed dead during the raid.
The incident was first reported on Sunday by security analyst Bakatsine in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter). According to the post, the attackers arrived in large numbers and operated for several hours before fleeing the area.
In addition to the fatalities, several women and children were reportedly abducted by the assailants. However, the exact number of those taken away could not be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
“Last night, notorious bandit leader Bello Turji led his gang to the Bargaja community in Isa LGA of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of three people. Several women and children were also abducted,” Bakatsine wrote.
He further expressed concern over the repeated attacks attributed to Bello Turji across Sokoto communities, questioning the effectiveness of current security strategies in curbing the bandit leader’s activities.
Bello Turji has long been linked to violent attacks, kidnappings, and mass displacement in parts of Sokoto and neighbouring states, despite ongoing military and security operations in the region.
As of press time, neither the Sokoto State Government nor relevant security agencies had issued an official statement confirming the attack or detailing steps being taken in response.
Residents of affected communities continue to call for intensified security presence and sustained operations to prevent further loss of lives and abductions in the area.
