Security operatives have arrested an elderly man suspected of attempting to transport ammunition to armed bandits operating in the Bagega forest area of Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State, in what authorities describe as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal logistics networks in the North-West.
According to security sources, the suspect was intercepted during a routine security operation along the Anka–Bagega road, a strategic corridor that has witnessed sustained military and security activities due to persistent bandit attacks in the area.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was allegedly attempting to enter Bagega town while carrying a quantity of ammunition believed to have been destined for armed groups hiding in the nearby Bagega forest. The forest has long been identified as one of the hideouts used by bandit factions operating across parts of Zamfara State.
The suspect has been taken into custody, while security agencies have commenced further investigations to determine the source of the ammunition, identify possible accomplices, and establish the intended recipients of the consignment. No official statement has yet been issued disclosing the suspect’s identity or the exact quantity and type of ammunition recovered.
The arrest comes amid intensified counter-banditry operations by security forces aimed at cutting off the supply of arms, ammunition and other logistics to criminal groups responsible for attacks, kidnappings and killings across Zamfara and neighbouring states. Authorities have repeatedly stressed that disrupting supply chains remains a key component of ongoing security operations in the region.
