Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been officially named the 2025/26 Premier League Player of the Season following a remarkable individual campaign that helped revive the fortunes of Manchester United.
The Portuguese midfielder earned the prestigious honour after producing one of the most influential seasons in recent Premier League history, guiding United to a third-place finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
Fernandes recorded eight league goals and a joint-record 20 assists in 37 Premier League appearances, equalling the long-standing single-season assist record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Beyond the goals and assists, Fernandes also emerged as the league’s most creative player, producing an astonishing 132 chances throughout the campaign — far ahead of the next closest player, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
The award marks the first time Fernandes has won the Premier League’s top individual prize since arriving in England, further cementing his status as one of the defining figures of the modern Manchester United era.
Speaking after receiving the award, Fernandes dedicated the achievement to his teammates, insisting the recognition reflected the collective strength of the squad rather than individual brilliance alone.
The 31-year-old’s latest accolade adds to an already glittering season in which he was also named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and won Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a fifth time.
Fernandes beat a strong shortlist that included Arsenal trio Declan Rice, Gabriel and David Raya, Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford striker Igor Thiago, and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
With one league game still remaining, Fernandes also has the opportunity to set a new outright Premier League assist record if he registers another assist before the season concludes.
