The Federal Government has approved a 35 per cent increase in hazard allowance for junior and senior members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) working in federal universities.
The adjustment, according to the reported agreement between the government and NASU, is expected to take effect from January 1, 2026.
Under the new arrangement, directors within the affected cadre are reportedly entitled to a hazard allowance of ₦600,000, while other eligible categories of NASU members will receive corresponding increases based on their respective levels.
The development followed discussions between the Federal Government and NASU, culminating in an agreement reached on June 29, 2026.
The review of the allowance is expected to affect non-academic university workers covered by the agreement and forms part of efforts to address conditions of service within Nigeria’s federal university system.
The implementation of the revised allowance is now expected to proceed in line with the terms agreed by both parties, subject to the applicable administrative and payroll processes.
The development comes amid continuing discussions between the Federal Government and university-based staff unions over remuneration, working conditions and other employment-related issues in the tertiary education sector.
