Fresh tension has erupted in Jos following a deadly attack by suspected gunmen on the Angwa Rukuba community, where an unspecified number of residents are feared dead.
The assault, which occurred on Sunday evening in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, reportedly saw armed assailants open fire indiscriminately on residents, triggering chaos and widespread panic.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attackers stormed the area around 7:30 p.m., shooting sporadically as residents fled in different directions to escape the violence. Some reports suggest the gunmen, believed to be operating on motorcycles, targeted youths in particular during the attack.
While the exact number of casualties remains unclear as of press time, multiple sources confirm that several people were killed, with families scrambling to locate missing loved ones in the aftermath.
A resident, speaking under anonymity, described the scene as sudden and terrifying: gunmen rode through the area and began shooting, forcing people to abandon homes and businesses in a desperate bid for safety.

The attack has since sparked unrest within the community, with angry youths reportedly blocking major roads in protest, heightening fears of escalating tensions in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement confirming casualty figures or identifying those responsible for the attack. Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful.
The latest violence adds to a troubling pattern of recurring attacks in Plateau State and parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where communities have faced repeated incidents involving armed groups, often linked to banditry and other security challenges.
Residents remain on edge, with many calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.
