The Kwara State Police Command has smashed a major drug trafficking and kidnapping ring, intercepting 127 bags of cannabis concealed under tubers of yam and arresting multiple suspects in a coordinated security sweep.

This was contained in a press statement on Saturday. The Command revealed that the breakthrough followed a joint operation on September 26, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., involving the National Security Adviser’s office, the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilante groups.
The team intercepted a vehicle along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis where the illicit drugs were hidden beneath a heap of yams.
Two suspects, Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, were arrested in connection with the cannabis haul.
In a related raid, operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar, Hussain (both of Tsaragi), and Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnapper linked to the August 8, 2025, Babanla invasion.
All suspects are undergoing discreet investigation and will be charged in court.
Commending the security synergy and successful operations, Commissioner of Police CP Adekimi Ojo psc, mnips, vowed that Kwara will remain unsafe for criminals.
“This operation underscores our commitment to proactive policing. Criminal elements will find no hiding place in Kwara State,” he declared.
The arrests mark one of the biggest drug interceptions in the state this year, reinforcing the ongoing crackdown on organized crime and illicit drug trade.
