The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following what authorities described as an intensive investigation by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the breakthrough came after weeks of intelligence gathering and sustained tactical operations aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the victim.
The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and 27-year-old Owoyemi Bashiru, popularly called “GDP,” were arrested on Monday, June 29, 2026, during coordinated raids on suspected cult hideouts across Ilorin metropolis.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects belong to a violent cult group allegedly responsible for the abduction of 29-year-old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an indigene of Oyo State who had been declared missing since June 4, 2026.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their individual roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed after his abduction by members of the cult group.
Investigators further uncovered that the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine other suspects currently on the run. The police said tactical operations have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s body.
The Command added that the suspects currently in custody are providing investigators with useful information relating to other violent crimes allegedly committed by the group within Ilorin metropolis.
The police assured residents that investigations are ongoing and pledged that all those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command.
