Thousands of applicants were left stranded on Monday as the Nigeria Customs Service’s online pre-exam portal crashed moments before the scheduled start of the pre-test for its 2025 recruitment exercise.
The glitch occurred just before the pre-test for the Superintendent cadre, which was supposed to begin at 3:00 p.m.
Applicants attempting to log in were repeatedly confronted with “500 Internal Server Error” messages, rendering the portal inaccessible.
In response, the NCS issued a statement attributing the failure to overwhelming traffic on the portal. The agency acknowledged the technical difficulties on its official platforms and urged applicants to keep trying as its technical team works to restore the system.
On social media, affected applicants expressed frustration and disappointment. Many reported waiting for hours at cybercafés, offices, or at home, refreshing their browsers but unable to access the portal.
Some called for the pre-test exercise to be conducted in smaller batches to reduce server load.
The recruitment drive covers three cadres, Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant. It is aimed at strengthening the workforce of the Nigeria Customs Service.
