Abuja’s iconic City Gate has taken on a striking new appearance following the completion of a major renovation, with the landmark now illuminated by a vibrant night-time display designed to enhance the capital city’s visual appeal.
The refurbished gateway, one of the most recognizable symbols of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), now features colourful illuminated fountains flowing beneath and around the famous arch, creating a captivating spectacle that has quickly attracted public admiration.
The unveiling marks the completion of the remodelling project championed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). According to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the facelift was inspired by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as part of efforts to give Abuja a more welcoming and world-class entrance while improving the city’s aesthetics.
Officials said the redesigned City Gate is intended to serve not only as a ceremonial entrance to the nation’s capital but also as a recreational attraction for residents and visitors. The upgraded complex includes modern water fountains and enhanced lighting, transforming the landmark into an eye-catching destination after sunset.
The project forms part of a broader urban renewal programme by the FCTA aimed at modernising key public infrastructure and beautifying Abuja’s major entry points. Government officials have expressed optimism that the renovated City Gate will strengthen the capital’s identity and further boost its appeal as a destination for tourism, leisure and official events.
