The Kwara State House of Assembly member representing Ilorin South constituency, Hon Jimoh Raheem Agoola on Sunday said he was suspended from legislative house because he refused to join the ruling party, All Progressive Congress APC.
Agboola the only opposition, PDP lawmaker in the Assembly made this known during a courtesy visit to the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.
Agboola explained that, he was not given the opportunity to represent his constituency and he has been deprived from performing his legislative duties in the house.
“I was frustrated and victimized all because I refused to join the ruling party, and as a lawmaker my duty is to make law, oversee government activities and to also represent my constituency.”
He further said, “my second offense is that, i was invited to speak on Albarka FM and I spoke about Gaa-akanbi road that was abandoned for decade and the deprivation of Ilorin south allocation. Obviously, everyone knows that 10 million is allocated for development and infrastructure in all constituencies in the state.”
“After the radio program, the speaker called for a meeting and I was questioned for speaking against being marginalised purposely because I’m the only PDP lawmaker in the house.”
Agboola alleged that, his colleagues conspired together to suspend him from the house because of this position he made known to the public.
“I was suspended for complete 6 months and since then, they’ve held 14 legislative sitting without me representing my people. Meanwhile, the speaker, Hon Yakubu Danladi has also refused to assign committee duties to me. That’s to tell you the level of impunity in the house.”
He also said; “Before Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq presented the 2022 budget to the house, i went straight to meet the speaker, and make him realised that I was democratically elected as assembly member like others, and I have the mandate to represent the interest of my people during the budget presentation.”
“But to my greatest surprised, the speaker singlehandedly told me to decamp to APC, or I still remain under suspension.”
Meanwhile, hon Agboola has implored I his supporters and party members to stay calm and not to take law into their hands, that very soon justice will prevail.
