Ilorin, Nigeria — In a move set to elevate sports tourism and leisure activities in Kwara State, Mohammed Kabir Gobir has formally unveiled the Kwara Horse Club and Resort, a state-of-the-art equestrian centre located in Ogele, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Speaking at the Guild of Digital Journalists (GDJ) Interface in Ilorin on February 6, 2026, Gobir described the project as a long-term investment aimed at boosting local economic growth, sports development, and tourism.
The facility, which sits on a spacious tract of land close to the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, is designed to host polo tournaments and soon horse racing events, positioning Ilorin as a new hub for equestrian sport in Nigeria.
Built with accessibility and convenience in mind, the club is already a member of the Nigeria Polo Federation and boasts plans to strengthen the presence of structured polo competitions in the region.
Beyond sports, the Kwara Horse Club and Resort doubles as a destination for tourism and lifestyle experiences, incorporating hotel accommodations, a restaurant, lounges, horseback riding facilities, viewing decks, and event spaces to attract visitors from Nigeria and abroad.
The first phase of the project has already welcomed over 20 horses into training, with services available for horse riding, leasing, and professional stable care. Gobir also highlighted plans to establish a veterinary centre and a digital platform to link animal owners with veterinary care services.
Significantly, the project is expected to generate more than 100 jobs across various areas such as stable management, horse care, riding instruction, hospitality, and facility administration, particularly benefiting youth and women through training in equestrian skills.
“The aim is for the club to not only be a sporting centre but a lifestyle and tourism attraction that contributes meaningfully to economic empowerment,” Gobir said, urging stakeholders, investors, and the public to support the initiative.
The Kwara Horse Club and Resort is also expected to enhance Kwara’s rich equestrian heritage, supplying trained horses for cultural events such as the annual Durbar festival in Ilorin.
