I listened to Mrs Toyin Saraki tonight. The video on her outburst on Kwara had trended across WhatsApp platforms and then on Twitter. I have watched it like many people. I am a Kwaran. I am livid.
The arrogance of Toyin Saraki sucks. But arrogance and Sarakis are Siamese twins. So, no biggie. But even more annoying are her barefaced lies. If her audience, likely comprising bootlickers, couldn’t tell her off for her poor judgment, those of us who do not eat from her plate should be honorable enough to call her out. This is particularly important for the youngsters who may not be old enough to know our history and so may be taken in by the smooth lies of Mrs. Saraki.
Dear Mrs. Saraki, please avoid insulting our people in your desperate attempt to capture, enslave and humiliate Kwarans again. Your husband did not build the Ilorin Airport please. The airport was commissioned on February 16, 1978. Your husband was just a teenager then. And you were a minor then, at just 14 years of age. Please don’t insult us again.
You also did not build the Kwara State Government House. You did not. We have always had a Government House in Ilorin. Did you add anything to it? Yes, your government did. With public funds and at rates that sent tongues wagging. But did you give Kwara its Government House? No.
Mrs Saraki, you also did not bring pipe borne water to Kwara State. No, pipe borne water in fact preceded the coming of your late father in law to Kwara politics in the 1970s. We owe the origin of pipe borne water in Kwara and on most parts of Northern Nigeria to the colonial government and the government of Sardauna. In fact, a sad legacy of your husband’s political leadership of Kwara State was the near absence of public pipe borne water in the state. What about your claim about building Ilorin-Osogbo road? Really?
Please try to hold yourself next time you talk in Kwara State.
I must not forget to ask if you were truly awake when you made these outrageous comments. We have reasons to suspect that something was wrong when you uttered those vile words against the people of Kwara State. How on earth can you say you have trained 62,000 health workers in Kwara State over the last four years? Do we have up to 20,000 health workers in all of Kwara State? Certainly not.
We know you and your husband are desperate for a state capture. This will not happen in Kwara again, by Gods grace. Enough of this humiliation. The present can always get better. No statistics show that the past is better. None. And its lapses do not include stripping us of our dignities as a people. Please don’t remind us of your bad old days in government when Kwarans were a laughing stock across Nigeria and beyond. It is a plea from all of us. Spare us of your stinking arrogance.
Engr Baba Ahmed.
