Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been declared winner of the off cycle Gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
The Returning Officer for the election, Olayemi Akinwumi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja in Kogi State, officially declared Aiyedatiwa the winner on Sunday.
The announcement ensures the incumbent governor will continue his tenure at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.
Aiyedatiwa, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 366,781 votes, decisively defeating his closest competitor, Ajayi Agboola, the former deputy governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes—more than half of Aiyedatiwa’s total.
“That Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the returning officer said at exactly 2:30pm at the INEC collation centre in Akure.

The declaration was made just hours after the collation of election results began early Sunday morning. Despite intermittent breaks at the collation center, the APC maintained a strong lead, ahead of the PDP by over 200,000 votes.
The final results confirmed a landslide victory for the APC, as they secured wins in all 18 local government areas.
